Social is a game changer. It’s the biggest communication shift since the telephone was created over 100 years ago. In Brantford, around half the population is on it. Social is a dominant force, and because of it, your business needs a social media presence.

Here’s a crazy statistic I heard early this week:

Think about that for a minute! Over half the time spent online was on social sites! That being said, this is where your business needs to be!

Most business owners agree that it is important to be on social and to have a social media plan. But not a lot of owners take it seriously. These are the top three reasons why you should consider hiring a social media manager.

1) PRIORITIES: As a business owner, you have a lot on your plate, and you probably don’t have the time or passion to be creating videos for Facebook or posting photos to Instagram. This is completely understandable. But the numbers above tell you people are on social, and you need to be where the people are! Instead of adding social to the bottom of your to-do list, hire it out and make it someone else’s priority. They get done what needs to get done, and you don’t have to think twice about it.

2) CONSISTENT SOCIAL CONTENT: Consistency is one of the most important things for social. I could do a whole blog post about the importance of consistently posting. Social media requires a consistent flow of content to be successful. A social media manager will make it their main priority to be consistent on each platform. Posting consistently builds your following and reaches your audience! One huge benefit of posting consistently is that there is a correlation between those who post links often and your Google ranking. Plus, everyone hates when they visit a page and it’s out of date. Consistency is key for success.

3) CUSTOMER SERVICE: Social media managers double as customer service. People expect your business to provide customer service through mediums like Facebook. The acceptable response time to an inquiry or concern is now only four hours! Customers want to be able to get a hold of someone if they have a question. I’m going to go out on a limb to say you don’t have time or a desire to be on-call waiting for customer concerns on social. Social managers do! Even if they cannot answer a question right then, the customer is happy that a human answered them. This is only one part of the customer service experience. Social media is social! People want to be talked to and re-tweeted. It’s not enough to just be present on social, you have to be active! So when someone comments on your posts, reply!

This is just a list of three reasons why you need to hire a social media manager. There are myriads of other examples of the benefits of hiring someone to take care of your social media. It will provide a long term success by increasing brand knowledge and provide great leads for your business. It’s natural to be apprehensive about hiring out something that you believe you can do yourself, but having someone else tackle the monster that is social is worth its weight in gold.
