I’ve been talking to a lot of people lately about video, and it’s more often than not, met with resistance. They all say the same thing, “I know it’s important, but I just don’t want to do it. I’m not good at it.”
Here’s the thing, one of the best ways to help get the word out about your business is by going live! It helps you connect with your audience and is a great way to promote yourself. Not only that, but live video content is generating the most engagement and therefore is getting the most reach. This is why you MUST do live videos!
I’m not a naturally extroverted person. Before Purple Bean, I barely even did selfies. But I got over myself and did the video thing because that is what is best for my business. (Side note: I actually got a few clients & prospects because they said they watched my videos – so it works!).
Here are some tips to get yourself ready to go live!
1) Plan it out: If you’re like me, you can’t just get talking off the top of your head. Because I want to add value for my listeners, I sit down and figure out what I’m going to say. I get the gist of my message, and what antidote goes well with it. I rarely speak off the top of my head – when I do that, I stumble over words, go on bunny trails and in general, it’s not as smooth as I like it to be.
2) Practice: Before I go live, I record myself. I do a few takes to get the flow of what I’m saying right, to time myself and to make sure it sounds good.
3) Only watch it once: You are your biggest critic. Over-analysis leads to paralysis. Seriously, if you watch it over and over you will judge yourself too harshly and then never do it again. No one noticed that you blinked too much or that you mixed up a word. They are watching you and loving it because you are providing them with value! They aren’t worried about the nuances. People consume things like you consume things: Do you completely rip apart a person when they go live or do you watch it and like it?
Going live can be scary – especially at the beginning.. But doing these three things will help boost your confidence, and trust me, the more you do it, the easier it becomes. Practice really does make perfect.
