Facebook vs Instagram
Facebook vs Instagram – which platform is better for your business?
Last week I released a video about Facebook sending more traffic to your website than Instagram. Click here to watch the video. This is a very important element to consider when deciding if you will be using Facebook or Instagram as your primary social media platform. Instagram doesn’t lead as much traffic to your website as Facebook, and this might concern you.
One reason Instagram doesn’t send as much traffic to your website as Facebook is because there is only one place to provide a link, and that is in your profile section. This is all well and good, until you create a post that links back to a specific blog, podcast or product you are selling. You have to say, “link in bio” to lead people to your link.
Most people use the Instagram app through their Instagram feed, which means, they aren’t going to your main page. On the other hand, Facebook allows for links to be embedded in each post. This means that if you create a post designed to send traffic to you website, all they have to do is click on the link. This makes it extremely easy for the user to go directly to your webpage, and Facebook is doing a great job at that: Facebook sends double the traffic to websites than Instagram. Warning: Do not link out of Facebook on every post, choose wisely. Facebook wants people to stay in the Facebook ecosystem – this is how they make money after all. If you are putting links in every post, Facebook will start limiting your reach.

What does this mean for you?
If you have a video you want to be uploaded, you need to upload it both to Youtube and Facebook. Do not use the Youtube link on your Facebook – if you do, you won’t see nearly as much reach as if you uploaded it natively.
So, if you are debating between Facebook and Instagram, this is one element you have to seriously consider. How important is it to your business to have your website linked back to? If website traffic is extremely important to your brand or business, you might want to put more effort into Facebook.
