This week, a few groups I am a part of on Facebook has seen a huge drop in membership. This is due to a few changes Facebook has recently made to groups.
Up until now, Facebook users have been able to add any friends to groups. Similar to page invites, you will now get invited to join a group as opposed to being automatically added. If a user is invited, they will have to manually accept the invitation to visit the group. The admins will have the capacity to send one reminder note to each invitee to re-prompt them to join their group. If users don’t take action, they will not be listed as part of the group.
Now for the huge drop in membership – if you’ve invited people to join your Facebook group but they are not active in your community, you will see your numbers decline in the next couple weeks (if you haven’t already).
If you are a group admin, post a quick note letting people know about these new rules and encourage members to like the post or to leave a comment.
