For the last six months, I’ve noticed that Instagram organic reach is dramatically dropping, and the decline is considerable. There are a few reasons for this – Instagram is very saturated, and following in the footsteps on Facebook – trying to get businesses to pay for views. The reason social media marketing is so difficult is because every time you get the hang of a platform, something changes! And this change is detrimental to your brand strategy.

What does this mean for you??

If you are marketing heavily on Instagram, this is terrible news. A decrease in engagement means  less visibility for you and your brand. There are a few things you can do to combat the decrease.

  1. Promote your feed posts in your Instagram stories – this will help bring specific post engagement up. If there is a post you really want people to see, talking about it in stories is a great way to drive people to your post.
  2. Spend the Money – Again, if there is a post that you really to get noticed, put some ad dollars behind it! Boost the post so it gets in front of people.
  3. Link Back – Use your email marketing or other social posts to link back to your feed or to a specific post.

As always, I will tell you, don’t put all your eggs in one basket. If your brand rests on Instagram’s algorithms, you are on a knife’s edge. Start building up your email list, continue to build on other social media platforms and of course, build personal relationships within your community!
